Audience Editor, Nashville Scene/FW Publishing

FW Publishing — owners of the Nashville Scene, Nfocus, the Nashville Post and the Williamson Scene — has an immediate opening for an audience editor with the Nashville Scene. The person in this position will work in the editorial department, with a focus on sharing Scene stories digitally, via social media and through our newsletters, as well as audience engagement and analyzing the reach of our stories and other Scene content.

Job Summary:

Responsible for overseeing day-to-day distribution of our stories online. This includes uploading articles to our content management system, maintaining a social media schedule and preparing newsletters. Answering to the editor-in-chief and publisher, this person will also develop and update a suite of web analytics, and coordinate marketing efforts for the website in collaboration with the marketing and events team.

The audience editor should be passionate about journalism, reporting and writing.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage social media and newsletters.

  • Upload Scene stories to the web, and coordinate with fellow editors in doing so.

  • Edit, proofread, pitch and write stories for our website and the Scene’s weekly print issue. Suggest and execute new formats and approaches for sharing our stories — including video and graphic elements.

  • Analyze and maximize the reach of online editorial content, newsletters and social media.

  • Help the team meet its publishing deadlines for the website and social channels.

  • Assist EIC in resolving problems related to editorial workflow.

  • Pitch and workshop new tactics for growing our audience — from social media videos to specialized newsletters.

  • Respond to social media comments and messages. Foster discussion there.

  • Help develop and maintain SEO practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in English, journalism, communications or related field, plus at least two years’ experience in an editorial role in media or publishing.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills. Detail- and deadline-oriented. Uncompromising approach to ethical standards, branding and style, and journalistic principles.

  • Demonstrated experience building and managing networks of writers and contributors.

  • Demonstrated experience working with design, marketing and production staff.

  • Advanced skills in working with web-based software, project- and publication-management tools, and content management systems, including:

    Web Management — experience with Squarespace, Wix or TownNews/BLOX CMS platforms preferred.

    Social Media Management — experience with content-management platforms such as Sprout (or equivalent).

    Layout and Design — experience with Adobe InDesign or InCopy and Photoshop is a plus.

    Video Editing — experience shooting and editing short-form videos for social media.
